About Lauren Proctor
I’m Lauren Proctor, a strategist, writer, and builder based in New York. My work often starts with something I notice and can’t stop thinking about: stacked acrylic tiles in a gallery, the shape of a pagoda tree, a friend’s marker handwriting. I start asking what makes it distinctive and what else it could become. Sometimes the answer is a product. Lately, it’s often been a typeface. When I make a font, I begin with the idea before drawing the alphabet. I work out its rules in a handful of letters, then use Python, Glyphs, and Claude to carry those decisions through the rest. That lets me change a proportion or remove a detail and see the effect across the whole family. The tools make the loop faster. I still decide what looks right, what needs another pass, and what no longer belongs. I built Fanwise to help independent creators present their work and get it in front of people. The typefaces here are part of my own practice of noticing, making, and refining. The tools are new, but the skill underneath feels familiar: seeing clearly, then deciding.
